Twelve years ago, African nations gathered to issue the ground-breaking Abuja Declaration. It was a historic moment, as Africa pledged to band together to eliminate the health crises devastating the continent. In July 2013, African Union (AU) Member States once again will convene in Nigeria for the Special Summit of the African Union
on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Abuja +12).
It will be an opportunity to review how far countries have come since Abuja and to chart a course for the work still to come.
